HOW TO GET CREDIT FOR HISTORY COURSES TAKEN ABROAD
Click here for the Study Abroad website for full instructions.
- If you participate in a Duke abroad program like Duke in France or Duke in Florence, your courses transfer back automatically and are counted as though you took them at Duke. For History Majors, this means that these courses are not counted as your two allowed "transfer courses" for the major.
- For history courses taken in a non-Duke abroad program: all courses already approved for transfer credit back to Duke are listed on the Study Abroad website.
For any other course, you must fill out an approval request and submit it WITH documentation concerning the course to the Study Abroad Office.
For any non-approved program, there is additional paperwork to petition for the program to be accepted. Check the Study Abroad website for details.
- Reminders For History Majors: You must get approval for your study abroad program (even if it is a Duke program) from the DUS or your advisor as part of the final approval process. Click here for the appropriate form.
NOTE: The DUS cannot sign this form without meeting with you. Do not leave this form until the last minute!!
Remember that courses from any non-Duke abroad program will count as "transfer courses." Two transfer courses are allowed for the major.
All approved study abroad History courses can be used to meet geographical, thematic and pre-1800 requirements. The DUS determines how individual courses apply to meet those requirements.
