NEH Summer Seminar
Avignon, France

June 30 - July 25, 2008

This seminar, sponsored by  The National Endowment for the Humanities Seminar for Teachers (NEH), and under the direction of Ronald G. Witt, William B. Hamilton Professor of History, Duke University, will meet for four weeks seminar in Avignon to study on location a selection of Petrarch’s writings composed in Avignon and the Valley of the Vaucluse. The goal of the seminar is to explore the intimate tie between site and text so as to enhance appreciation of Petrarch’s writings and the emotional and intellectual complexity of the father of Italian humanism.
